- ALPFA MIAMI 2008 BOARD - Past President Zameer Upadhya is currently President of AMR Consulting Services, Inc and Senior Associate with Advanced Business Solutions (ABS). AMR was started by Zameer in July 2005. Thru AMR, Zameer, provides CFO services for small businesses and leadership development for professionals and students. As a Senior Associate with ABS, Zameer, provides expertise in SOX consulting to a number of public companies. Prior to starting his own practice Zameer was a Senior Auditor with BDO Seidman, LLP where he handled the financial audit for public clientele such as Mastec and Equity One. Zameer began his career with Johnson & Johnson as a Financial Analyst in their prestigious Financial Leadership Development Program. While at Johnson & Johnson he had increasing responsibilities including support of a $120MM Research and Development budget, $180MM Regulatory Affairs Budget, Sales Forecasting for a $3.2B Biotechnology Operating Company, and License and Acquisition due diligence for the Biotechnology sector. Zameer is a graduate of Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida where he majored in accounting to earn his second Bachelors degree. His first degree is in Biology from Barry University ( Miami, FL). While at Barry University, Zameer displayed his leadership as President of the American Medical Students Association. Zameer was also inducted into the prestigious Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honors Society and Tri-Beta the Biological Sciences Research Honors Society. After successful internships at the Baylor College of Medicine, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and the National Institutes of Health, Zameer made a career change towards accounting. While at FIU, Zameer became president of the FIU Accounting Association and founded the student chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA). Under his leadership Zameer grew the student chapter into the largest in the nation. From this position Zameer became increasingly involved with ALPFA and accepted a position on the National Board as student director, which he held from October 2001 thru January 2004. In September 2002 Zameer was honored with the ALPFA National Student of the Year award and in January 2003 he was identified as one of " Florida's Finest" by Florida Leader magazine. Zameer was also inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma (the National Business Honors Fraternity – reserved for students graduating in the top 10 percent of their class) as president, Phi Mu Alpha (Financial Management National Honors Society) as member, and Beta Alpha Psi (National Accounting Honors Society) as member. While at FIU, Zameer kept busy with internships at Rachlin, Cohen & Holtz C.P.A.s (Tax), PricewaterhouseCoopers (Audit) and by operating his own bookkeeping and tax service. He has continued his leadership activities as a Professional. As Chair of the FIU Accounting Association Corporate Advisory Board, he has devoted endless hours to helping students from FIU and across the nation achieve their dreams and subsequently was recognized for his efforts with college students at FIU in the Spring of 2005 as the Most Supportive Business Professional. Since July 2004 Zameer accepted the position of President of the ALPFA Miami Chapter and grew the organization from 250 members to 700 members making it the 2 nd largest chapter in the nation. Further, he and his board raised over $100K in total funds within their first year. For his hard work Zameer was recognized in August 2005 at the ALPFA National Convention with the Most Promising Business Professional of the Year award, the youngest recipient of this award. Zameer shares his leadership experiences, as an invited motivational speaker at high schools, colleges, and businesses throughout the United States thru his company AMR Consulting Services.
