Maria Yip

Ms. Yip is a certified public accountant (CPA) and certified fraud examiner (CFE) and certified in financial forensics (CFF) with more than 15 years of experience providing forensic accounting and litigation support services to attorneys, bankruptcy trustees, liquidating trustees, court-appointed receivers, and state and federal Governmental agencies in complex matters involving economic damages, white collar crime, fraud, and embezzlement in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms. Yip has served as an expert witness in Federal Bankruptcy court, Federal and State court and international litigation and arbitration matters. Ms. Yip also serves as a Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee and as a court-appointed examiner.

Prior to starting her own firm, Ms. Yip with the Executive Director of Daylight Forensic & Advisory, a risk management consulting firm based in New York.

Prior to joining Daylight, Ms. Yip had been the partner in charge of Grant Thornton’s Florida forensic practice. Ms. Yip has provided forensic accounting and litigation support services to counsel for publicly and privately-held companies, counsel for audit committees, and court-appointed receivers for governmental agencies including the Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodities Futures Trading Commission, Federal Trade Commission, and the State of Florida Department of Insurance and Rehabilitation in matters involving complex financial and economic issues.

Ms. Yip has provided forensic accounting services to counsel and audit committees of privately and publicly-held companies, including investigations into alleged accounting irregularities, financial statement manipulation, fraud and defalcations. These services included conducting interviews (English/Spanish), detailed review and analysis of financial records and complex transactions, reconstruction of financial information, analysis of impact on financial statements, identification of persons involved, determination of reliance by third parties, identification of the scheme(s) utilized, identification of corporate funds misappropriated, determination of the flow of funds to potential sources of recovery, and preparation of report on findings. Ms. Yip has significant experience with investigations in Latin America.

Ms. Yip has provided litigation support services to attorneys representing clients in connection with the determination of damages in commercial disputes arising from a breach of contract. The services provided include detailed review and analysis of financial records, assistance with discovery, preparation of damage analyses, written reports, demonstrative exhibits and testimony.

As a result of her litigation support and forensic accounting experience, language skills, and cultural understanding, Ms. Yip has effectively provided services to attorneys in Florida and nationally in connection with Latin America and Caribbean matters.

Ms. Yip has a Bachelor of Accounting from Florida International University. Ms. Yip is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA), Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors (AIRA), Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) - Miami Chapter President, and on the Florida International University School of Accounting Advisory Board.
