-WHAT DOES ALPFA STAND FOR?-

Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting

-OUR MISSION-

To be the leading Latino professional association dedicated to enhancing opportunities for CPA's, accountants, and finance related professionals, and students, while expanding Latino leadership in the global workforce.

-OUR HISTORY-

ALPFA is the PROUD successor of the American Association of Hispanic Certified Public Accountants (AAHCPA), the first national Latino professional association in the United States. Established in 1972, this Association continues to build upon our proud legacyof shared values and guiding principles.

-THE MIAMI CHAPTER-

In 2001, the Executive Board of the Florida International University (FIU) Accounting Association had the opportunity to attend the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting's (ALPFA) National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Executive Board showed an interest on the values, principles, and mission that ALPFA advocates. During the convention, Zameer Upadhya, Accounting Associate President, approached Manny Espinoza, CEO of ALPFA, with the board's interest of starting an ALPFA chapter in Miami.

It all began in January of 2002 at Florida International University when Manny Espinoza made a presentation discussing how he could visualize an ALPFA chapter in Miami. After the presentaion, the Accounting Association Executive Board and Manny Espinoza worked together to start the ALPFA Miami Chapter. Throught the hard work and dedication of the FIU Accounting Association, the Miami Chapter was developed.

It has been little over 6 years now since the concept of the ALPFA Miami was first envisioned. During this time, not only has ALPFA Miami come into existence, but it has also become the third largest professional chapter and the largest student chapter in the nation.

In recognition of the FIU Accounting Association Executive Board of Fall 2001:

Zameer Upadhya - President
Leighton Chang - President Elect
